2026-11-15 –, Workshop Room #3#
How hard can it be to NOT use wires? Sometimes pretty hard! But it doesn't need to be!
In this workshop you will learn what needs to be done to have a great wireless network.
And how you can achieve that without getting bankrupt.
For the better half of a decade I have been doing professional work around wifi.
WLAN on a campus or office complex, logistic warehouses, hospitals etc. have been my bread and butter for more than 5 years.
With a change in employment my responsibilities shifted, but the passion never died. And for the last couple of years I helped with wifi deployments on smaller gigs like Nordlicht Demoparty, medium festivals like Stemweder Open Air and bigger events like Chaos Communication Congress or WHY2025.
In this workshop I will give an overview and introduction of what is possible with today's free (and maybe open source) tools for getting great reliable wifi at home.
My goal for the full day workshop is for you to;
- being able to differentiate between good wifi and bad wifi
- being able to articulate your requirements for your own wifi environment
- being able to better put the big players in the market into context
- being able to successfully implement small projects (e.g. wifi at your or your friends home)
- being able to better work as an intermediary for wifi consultants in case your project got bigger
The main focus will be on practical applications. With a short sidequest on the theoretical side.
While all of this is applicable in a broader context, we will NOT dive deep into every single nuance of wifi tuning. The tradeoff in this workshop will be to invest less of hard cash for a bit more of personal work hours.
iPhone with LiDAR capabilities, Laptop for hands on workshop, a "burner" mail account (to be used for registering on certain websites for demo purposes),
I'm closing in on my 20 years anniversary of being in the IT industry.
More to come.
